About these A2 stories

Written Cantonese is not a romanisation of speech and it is not Standard Chinese with a Hong Kong accent. These five A2 stories use the characters people actually type: 嘅, 咩, 喺, and the rest of the small set that makes a sentence sound like Cantonese on the page. The first story is an ordinary day. Then a cha chaan teng order, a ride on the MTR, a Saturday plan, and a short note on why the language is awkward to learn and still worth it. Tap any word for a translation and for Jyutping, which is the pronunciation aid here, not Hanyu Pinyin. Audio plays the line in Cantonese while the current word is highlighted, so you can hear the tone that the numbers in Jyutping only hint at. Save a word with its sentence. A character you already know from Mandarin may not mean the same thing in this sentence, and the saved line is what keeps that difference honest at review.
